Batteries
Few companies go to lengths SwissQual does to ensure reliability, and even fewer go as far as to test the batteries they use to destruction. But batteries are an important reliability component of our smart shutdown function, which allows SwissQual systems to continue operating at full power for up to 150 seconds after a loss of main power, and if necessary shutdown gracefully by saving all data without crashing – and potentially ruining valuable data.
Tested to the extreme
SwissQual takes the testing stage very seriously
Designing a good quality product is never enough, and at SwissQual the next stage is to test those designs, sometimes literally to destruction. The testing sequence is something we take seriously at SwissQual. We test almost every component that goes into our systems, even down to the batteries.
Every piece of hardware undergoes a harsh regime of tests that includes environmental cycling from -30°C to +70°C and subjecting our equipment to shake and shock testing on specialized tables that punch more than 50 gravities of shock loading into the equipment chassis. The cold is so cold that it literally freezes the chamber around the equipment. The heat cycling is hot enough to melt the plastic on most standard USB cabling – but not those used by SwissQual, which are of a higher specification.
For comparison, laptops used in less comprehensive solutions cannot be operated in those ranges. Most laptop computers are specified to operate between 0°C and +35°C; they cannot even be stored at +70°C or -30°C. We are the only company in this sector of the market to destruction test our batteries to CSA/IATA standards such that they can be shipped by air. We also put all our equipment through appropriate type approvals before shipping to customers.
