SQUAD uses pre-processed speech samples which are analysed after transmission to determine the degradation pattern that has been introduced by the network.The output includes a mean opinion score (MOS) objective value using the ITU-T’s recommendation P.800.1. SQUAD also provides a detailed “cause analysis” which highlights the network issues that are having the greatest affect on perceived quality.
SQUAD has a number of variants:
- SQUAD-NS: tests the network’s ability to cope with noise
- SQUAD-AEC: tests the efficiency of echo cancelling in the network
- SQUAD-RTT: measures the audio signal delay in communcations channels in real time
